Katie's Run, a project of the Katie McBride Foundation, honors the memory of Katie and the families of all childhood leukemia victims and other life-threatening diseases. This event's primary objective is to honor Katie while raising important funds and awareness of the Ronald McDonald House of Long Island and the family support services it provides.
On September 16th, the Katie McBride Foundation presented a check of $15,000 to the Ronald McDonald House of Long Island. This marks over $70,000 in donations to the Ronald McDonald House raised through the proceeds of Katie's Run since 2010. Additionally, the Foundation has provided over $40,000 to local charities, families in need, and scholarships to students since its founding.
The Foundation would like to thank all of the volunteers, sponsors, participants and the community for making this contribution possible.
During its Annual Golf Outing, the Heather Pendergast Fund made a surprise announcement — they will be donating $5,000 in Katie's name to the Ronald McDonald House that will be used to help fund the new Katie McBride Fitness Center. Both the McBrides and the Pendergasts shared their toughest moments at the Ronald McDonald House and have supported one another's charitable efforts over the past few years.
The Katie McBride Foundation would like to thank Tom and Penny Pendergast for their generosity and helping to keep Katie's memory alive.
The Heather Pendergast Fund was established by members of the Massapequa Fire Department in the memory of Heather who lost her courageous battle with cancer in 2008. Heather's Fund assists the children of Volunteer Firefighters/EMS on Long Island who become stricken with a life threatening illness.
The Katie McBride Foundation is pleased to announce that the Ronald McDonald House of Long Island has approved the plans to name the new fitness center after Katie. The Ronald McDonald House is entering Phase II of Project Design, a renovation initiative that will bring together more than 45 of America's leading interior designers. Last summer, Phase I transformed a portion of the house, and Phase II will continue with the addition of 24 bedrooms, four kitchens, five common areas, laundry rooms and the creation of the brand new Katie McBride Fitness Center and meditation room.
Since 2010, the Katie McBride Foundation has donated over $54,000 to the Ronald McDonald House of Long Island through the proceeds of Katie's Run.
